Two individuals were killed in an attack believed to be carried out by Ambazonia separatists in Bamenda, located in the North West Region of Cameroon, as reported by eyewitnesses. This incident has further escalated the tensions in the area.

The attack commenced with the sound of gunshots, as described by a witness who spoke to reporter Kate Bih of MMI. The witness, still in shock, recounted, “I was in my shop when I heard gunfire. When I went to see what was happening, I witnessed a Brasseries truck descending the Fish Pond hill uncontrollably.”

The assault took place while the driver of the Brasseries truck, known only as Clifford to witnesses, was on a routine delivery from the Che Street neighborhood, carrying a load of beverages.

Eyewitnesses stated that the assailants, believed to be separatists, targeted Clifford by shooting him in the head while he was behind the wheel. The driverless truck then careened down the hill, swerved off the road, and crashed through a makeshift shop before being halted by another vehicle.

This tragic event resulted in the loss of both Clifford and another individual. The community is in shock from the violence, and residents have voiced their dismay at the unnecessary loss of life.

The victims’ bodies have been taken to the morgue, leaving residents to mourn the lives lost and demand an end to such acts of violence. This recent incident underscores the ongoing toll of the Anglophone Crisis.

Cameroon, a country in central Africa, has been grappling with the Anglophone Crisis since 2017. The conflict originates from historical grievances of the English-speaking minority (Anglophones) who feel marginalized by the French-speaking majority (Francophones) in the government.
