One of the strong men of the armed separatist group loyal to General Terminator was eliminated during a sweep operation by the Rapid Intervention Battalion in Ndjimekong, not far from Batibo in the North-West region, Momo department. It is learned that the said intervention was carried out by the rapid intervention battalion No. 32 GRPMT from March 9-11, 2024. It concerned the locality of Batibo and its surroundings. Following clashes between separatists and special forces, the separatist commander Barack, loyal lieutenant of General Terminator, was killed. During the heavy exchanges of fire, another separatist militia member managed to escape, albeit seriously injured.
The results of the operations report numerous items recovered by the army. Among others, a Colt-type firearm, 01 PMAG magazine box, 08 762 ammunition, 2 bottles of explosive gasoline, gunpowder stock, 1 cannon tube, 2 detonators, 02 pairs of rangers, 03 car batteries, 04 solar panels, and batches of fetishes.
This operation comes as the so-called Anglophone crisis, which has been raging since 2017, experiences a renewed tension in the two English-speaking regions of the country. On February 11, a bomb exploded in the peaceful town of Nkambe, located in the North-West region of Cameroon, about 600 kilometers from Buea in the South-West region. Local authorities see the hand of separatist fighters behind this attack carried out on National Youth Day. At least one person died and 40 others were injured, including children who were admitted to the city’s health facilities for medical care.
The situation continues to be tense on the ground, and local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Internationally, complaints are being made against leaders who finance this crisis from abroad, while the international community continues to call for the restoration of peace and inclusive dialogue to resolve the crisis in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon.
