The information is contained in a press release signed on April 11, 2024 by Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, Minister of Commerce.

The announcement of the reduction in the prices of refined oils is not yet effective, as the Minister responsible for Commerce has already announced the reduction of rice prices. In a two-page press release, the Cameroonian head of Commerce brought to the attention of consumers that “following intense discussions with operators in the sector, and after the arrival of the first shipments resulting from the special quota of 190,000 tons negotiated with the Indian Government, the price of rice to the final consumer, which was 550 f cfa/kg for the city of Yaoundé, will see a significant decrease as of April 12, 2024.”

In detail, the new announced prices will be as follows: Indian rice, under the special quota of 190,000 tons: price decrease between 70 and 90 f cfa/kg. As for the 25% broken rice (new prices) in the city of Douala: 22,250 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 445 fcfa/kg. In Yaoundé: 23,000 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 460 f cta/kg. As for the 5% broken rice (new prices) in Douala: 23,500 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 470 f cfa/kg, in Yaoundé: 24,000 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 480 f cfa/kg.

Regarding Pakistani rice, the price decrease is between 20 and 50 f cfa/kg. As for the 25% broken rice (new prices) in Douala: 24,250 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 485 f cfa/kg. In Yaoundé: 25,000 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 500 fcfa/kg. For the 5% broken rice (new prices), in Douala it will be 26,000 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 520 f cfa/kg. In Yaoundé: 26,500 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 530 f cfa/kg.

For Thai rice, the price decrease is between 15 and 50 f cfa/kg for the 25% broken rice (new prices). In Douala it will be 24,500 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 490 f cfa/kg. In Yaoundé, it will be 25,000 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 500 f cfa/kg. For the 5% broken rice (new prices) in Douala, it will be 26,250 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 525 f cfa/kg. And in Yaoundé: 26,750 f cfa/50 kg bag, which is 535 f cfa/kg.

“The same price decrease applies, in proportion, to all other cities in the country, taking into account the cost of transportation. The control teams have received precise instructions for the strict and effective implementation of these new prices on the ground, for the benefit of consumers,” the press release states.
