The president and other members of this institution begin a new term on April 2, 2024, by taking the oath.
The Cameroonian parliament convened in Congress on Tuesday, April 2, at the Palais des congrès de Yaoundé. Deputies and senators gathered at 11 am. They received the oath of the members of the Constitutional Council. These members were appointed by decree of the head of state on January 18, 2024, for a six-year term. As the Constitutional Council begins its second term following its inauguration in 2018, a Cameroonian citizen expresses his expectations.
Abdouraman Hamadou Babba’s expectations lie in the transparency of the opinions issued by the Constitutional Council. The former member of the Fécafoot emphasizes the obligation of the President of the Council to provide a motivated opinion regarding the reasons that the head of state would put forward to extend the mandate of deputies in 2025. This obligation also extends to the publication of this opinion in the Official Journal.
The football leader recalls this procedural requirement by remembering the extensions of the mandate of deputies on July 11, 2018, and July 19, 2019. Abdouraman Hamadou Babba makes a projection about the electoral appointments in 2025. In case of an extension of the mandate of deputies as “announced by the Secretary General of the RDPC, Mr. Jean Nkuete, we eagerly await the reasons that will be put forward by the President of the Republic and especially the motivated opinion of conformity to the Constitution that will be rendered by the President of the Constitutional Council, Mr. Clément Atangana,” he declares.
