The body of Sylvie Louisette Ngo Yebel was found in the third district of Yaoundé, in the Nsam neighborhood, as a wave of journalist assassinations is underway in Cameroon.

A journalist was coldly shot in Yaoundé. The victim’s relatives quoted by Paul Chouta indicate that the journalist was abducted by unidentified individuals and then murdered in Yaoundé.

Her body was found on Tuesday morning in the Nsam neighborhood in Yaoundé, still according to Paul Chouta. Traces of torture were reportedly visible on the body.

Another source cited by the politician Parfait Mbvoum indicated that Ms. Sylvie Yebel was abducted on Saturday night and her body was discovered on Sunday, April 7 at 8:30 a.m. However, questions arise as to why an alert was not raised after her abduction. Why was her body discovered since Sunday and it was only on Tuesday that this disastrous situation was mentioned? In fact, the information reportedly came from Kinshasa.

Settlement of scores or crime? Where is her husband and family? Asks the former leader of the SDF.

After working as a journalist in several media outlets, Sylvie Louisette ventured into communications. She first served as a communications officer at Traffic, a company operating in the sustainable development sector. Before her assassination, she was a communications officer at COMIFAC (Commission for Central African Forests). She worked for environmental preservation and biodiversity protection.

Her assassination brings to light the issue of citizen security in Cameroon and journalists in particular. Between January 2023 and April 2024, at least 4 journalists have been assassinated in Yaoundé. First, Arsène Salomon Mbami Zogo, better known as Martinez Zogo, a renowned journalist and director of the private station Amplitude FM, was found dead five days after being abducted in front of a gendarmerie station in the Cameroonian capital in January 2023.

Eleven days later, Jean-Jacques Ola Bebe, a radio presenter and Orthodox priest, was found dead on February 2 near his home in the Mimboman neighborhood in Yaoundé, apparently shot by unknown assailants, according to the UN.

In May of the same year, in Bamenda, the capital of the Northwest region, “a group of armed terrorists (…)” cowardly and coldly assassinated” Anye Nde Nsoh, correspondent for the weekly The Advocate Newspaper, as indicated in a statement by Simon Emile Mooh, prefect of the Mezam department.
