The Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development recently inaugurated the first closed-circuit gold ore processing unit in Kana, in the East region.
The interim Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development (Minmidt) inaugurated the first closed-circuit gold processing unit in Kana, a locality located in the gold-bearing region of the East of Cameroon. This new system has the capacity to process a maximum of 500 tons of gold per day.
The interim Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Professor FUH CALISTUS GENTRY, presented an innovative gold processing system that breaks away from traditional artisanal methods. “This system is more environmentally friendly, more profitable for the State and the operator. It is also an effective solution in the fight against child labor in the mine,” highlighted the Ministry of Mines.
The undeniable advantage of this new processing system lies in its ability to quickly extract gold from low-grade ores, recovering up to 95% of the gold content in the rock. This increased efficiency is expected to significantly improve the yields of producers, while reducing the waste of precious mineral resources.
The government aims to systematize this process and has already planned the installation of several new closed-circuit processing units in various mining sites, with the goal of professionalizing and making gold mining in Cameroon more environmentally friendly and in line with international standards.
It should be noted that this unit, the first in Central Africa according to the Ministry of Mines, is the result of a collaboration between the companies CODIAS S.A, YUCAM, and XIN WANG. The head of this Ministry Department also invited other operators in this sector to migrate to this system as soon as possible, or risk having their exploration permits revoked.
