The women of Bogo, in the Far North region and the Diamaré department, have recently received support. As a result, they will need to demonstrate their ability to manage and be independent in the coming days.
Most of these women live in an area that is greatly affected by increasing insecurity. Many of them are widows whose husbands have been killed by attackers, a situation that has hindered the development of this beautiful town.
To support them, the association of supportive youth for the emergence of Bogo, with financial support from partners including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) FHI360, CPHDA, ALDEPA, and the Higher Islamic Council of Cameroon, has trained many of them in sewing. They have also been provided with work materials. The ceremony took place at the multifunctional Center for Youth Promotion in Bogo.
“Empowerment strategies help women increase their bargaining power, gain more confidence, and increase their decision-making autonomy. They offer them the choice and power to act for their own security and that of their family,” says one beneficiary.
In the Diamaré region, specifically, many young women have remained confined to their homes, including single, divorced, and abused women who have not had the opportunity to go to school. To bring these women out of obscurity, the partners have supported them in commercial activities.
“I am a divorced mother of 4 children, I have been left without any support, fortunately, I have just benefited from the NGOs. I believe that with this support, I will try to take charge of my life and send my children to school,” says Aïcha.
