The Marahaba Music Expo is inviting artists from Burundi and all over the world to participate in a musical exchange, fostering connections, and building enduring relationships that will pave the way for growth and success.
To apply, interested artists are required to submit their bio and a link to a live performance in either video or MP3 format to [email protected]. The application deadline is 28 February, and the selected artists will be announced on 10 March.
Selected artists will have their costs covered for hotel accommodation, meals, local transportation during the festival, and performance fees. However, international travel and visa fees for artists coming from outside Burundi will not be covered by the organization.
In addition to the musical exchange, this year’s event will also feature a sound engineering workshop focused on female music technicians.
The Marahaba Jazz Day, established by the Marahaba Music Expo in 2020, provides opportunities for Burundian jazz artists to perform, connect with fans of the genre globally, and network with fellow musicians.
The Marahaba Arts Center, run by the organization, has been instrumental in nurturing the growth of music in Burundi by providing musical instrument training to young people.
Notably, last December, Shabani Ramadhani, the director of Marahaba Music Expo, was honored by UNESCO and the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz for organizing and live-streaming the International Jazz Day 2023 celebrations in Burundi.
