The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not yet revealed the identity of the new coach who will lead the Super Eagles in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic. The team is set to face South Africa on June 7 in Uyo and then travel to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire to take on Benin Republic three days later.

Reports had suggested that the NFF’s technical committee would meet to discuss the shortlisted candidates for the Super Eagles coaching position. However, NFF Media Director, Ademola Olajire, stated that he was not privy to any decision made by the federation on the matter. He explained that he would need to wait for the federation to meet and decide on the new coach before he could provide any information on the issue.

In a related development, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has instructed Benin Republic to hold their 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, as they were unable to secure a suitable stadium for the matches. Benin Republic’s match against Nigeria will now be played at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan. The country had initially proposed the Stade de l’Amitie in Cotonou as the venue, but CAF deemed it unfit to host a game of such significance.

The uncertainty surrounding the appointment of the Super Eagles’ new coach has left fans and stakeholders anxious about the team’s preparations for the upcoming qualifiers. With important matches against South Africa and Benin Republic fast approaching, the NFF’s delay in announcing a new coach has raised concerns about the team’s readiness for the tournament.

The Super Eagles will need to quickly finalize their coaching staff and begin preparations for the qualifiers to ensure they are in peak condition for the crucial matches ahead. As one of Africa’s footballing powerhouses, Nigeria will be looking to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup and make a strong statement on the international stage. The appointment of an experienced and capable coach will be vital in guiding the team to success in the qualifiers and beyond.

Overall, the NFF’s silence on the new Super Eagles coach has created a sense of anticipation and uncertainty among fans and observers alike. As the team gears up for the challenges ahead, all eyes will be on the federation to make a decision that will set the Super Eagles on the path to success in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
