The 2024 edition of the Cabo Verde Trail Series (CVTS) kicks off this Saturday, the 12th, with a climb to the highest point in Cabo Verde, the Fogo volcano. Around 150 athletes from Fogo, Brava, Santo Antão, São Vicente, São Nicolau, Santiago, Sal, as well as from Portugal and France, will participate in the various races.

According to the organization, the vertical kilometer that inaugurates this year’s edition is scheduled for 8 am in Chã das Caldeiras, on the island of Fogo.

Also tomorrow, in the afternoon, it will be the turn of the children to participate in the popular Kids Trail, which this year takes place in the Presídio square in São Filipe.

On Sunday, the 14th, it is time for the main stages: Trail (33 km), Trail Sprint (13 km), and Trail Jovem (8 km).

“The start is scheduled for 8 am at the headquarters of the Fogo Natural Park in Chã das Caldeiras. At 9 am, from the same location, the walk starts, maintaining the plogger concept, inaugurated last year, where walkers will collect plastic along the way,” the statement reads.

Registrations for the competitions of the Fogo Vulcan Trail- Run on Lava are sold out. However, registrations for the Walk and Kids Trail remain open.

The CVTS is an event that originated from the Cabo Verde Triangle Trail created in 2019, with the aim of positioning Cabo Verde as a reference destination for trail running in the world.

The event has already brought some of the best international trail athletes to the country, but it has also provided the participation and close involvement of national athletes and local populations, with the aim of creating a value chain linked to the sport, benefiting the communities.

It is noteworthy that the CVTS has already passed through the islands of Santiago, Maio, Fogo, Santo Antão, and São Nicolau.

This year, in its 3rd edition as Cabo Verde Trail Series, the event has 4 stages: Fogo Vulcan Trail, Trail d’Santiago, São Nicolau Trail, and Santo Antão Triangle Trail, according to the same source.

The Cabo Verde Trail Series (CVTS) and its Trail Sprint and Trail Circuits are a joint initiative organized by In Totum Lda and IDJ CV with the support of ITCV and the National Directorate of the Environment and Caboplast, sponsored by ALOU, Caixa Económica, and the ETE Group.
