Cabinet approves use of NIN as TIN to boost revenue collection

The government in Uganda has officially approved the adoption of the National Identification Number (NIN) as the default Tax Identification Number (TIN) for citizens, replacing the traditional, standalone tax registration process. 

The decision aims to harmonize identity data, streamline compliance, and curb persistent tax evasion that continues to suppress domestic revenue mobilization.
