Some Burkinabe wish for Cameroon to open a consulate in their country

Ouagadougou, March 9 (Africa Links 24) – Burkinabe living in Cameroon have expressed to the minister of state in charge of public service, Bassolma Bazié, their wish to see a Cameroonian consulate established in Burkina Faso to facilitate travel between the two countries.

Sharing their concerns with the minister of state, minister of public service, labor, and social protection, Bassolma Bazié, Burkinabe living in Cameroon emphasized that the absence of a Cameroonian consulate in Burkina Faso hinders exchanges between the populations of these two countries.

The fact that Burkina Faso has a consulate in Yaoundé while Cameroon does not have one in Burkina Faso “does not facilitate the travel of Burkinabe wishing to come to Cameroon,” noted the president of Burkinabe in Yaoundé, Prof. Hamidou Koné, as cited by the communications services of Minister Bassolma.

The Burkinabe diaspora living in Cameroon raised other concerns, including the lack of identification or travel documents (passports and identity cards) and the difficulties in renewing these documents when they expire.

Through collective or individual contributions to peace efforts, subscribing to the Community Shareholding Initiative (CSI), and transferring funds to their families, Burkinabe living in Cameroon provide significant support to the development of their country.

They consist of international civil servants working in UN agencies, international NGOs, sub-regional organizations, etc.; informal sector workers (trade, craftsmanship, gold mining, drivers, and various activities such as security, motorcycle taxi drivers). It also includes priests, religious sisters, students and interns, as well as Cameroonian wives of Burkinabe origin.

Minister Bassolma met with them on the sidelines of the open days of the African Regional Center for Labor Administration (CRADAT), of which he is the current president of the Board of Directors.
