Burkina/Yatenga: The Coordination of Citizen Vigilance Associations in the North Warns Against Any Attempt to Destabilize Faso

Ouahigouya, April 8, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – Leaders and members of The Coordination of Citizen Vigilance Associations in the North (CAVC/Nord) issued a stern warning on Monday against any attempt to destabilize Burkina Faso during a press conference, as observed by an Africa Links 24 journalist on the ground in the city of Naba Kango.

This press conference provided an opportunity for the Coordination to introduce itself better and share its views on various topics related to current national events.

Gathered around the coordinator of citizen vigilance in Yatenga, Assami Guiro, the head of the citizen vigilance for the month, Adama Komé, and the spokesperson for the coordination, several supporters of the Transition government and President Ibrahim Traoré attended the press conference organized in the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2024, in Ouahigouya.

The organizers of the meeting began with a preliminary statement outlining the purpose of the press briefing. “Our stoic duty compels us not only to state our position on the revolutionary providential management of our country under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, but also to continue to expose imperialists and all those who oppose the progress of the proud Burkinabe people,” said Adama Komé.

In turn, the leaders of the citizen vigilance highlighted the achievements of the transition in terms of diplomacy, socio-economic development, and the theater of operations. “We are at war against terrorism, and any attempt to divert our fighting forces will be severely punished. We call for national unity and solidarity to address these challenges. The stability and security of Burkina are our top priority.”

Members of a dozen citizen vigilance associations criticized recent statements on social media by journalist Inoussa Ouédraogo calling for a revolt against the transition regime. “It is important to note that Inoussa Ouédraogo is a misguided young man, manipulated by politicians who have all fled the country out of opportunism. Therefore, we strongly condemn any attempt to destabilize our country at this crucial time when we are engaged in a fierce fight against terrorism,” they stated.

The interventions concluded with expressions of gratitude to the President of the transition and his government, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), religious and traditional leaders, and the resilient people of Burkina Faso.
