Burkina/Yatenga: a celebration dedicated to books and arts launched in Ouahigouya
Ouahigouya, March 8, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The AS Academy Omnisports (ASAO) in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Post-Primary and Secondary Education of the North (DREPPS) launched the 1st edition of the Book and Arts Festival (FELIART) on Friday, March 8 in Ouahigouya.
Under the theme, “reading in service of peace promotion and non-violence,” AS Omnisports in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Post-Primary and Secondary Education of the North launched the 1st edition of the Book and Arts Festival (FELIART) in the city of Naaba Kango with the objective of using reading to promote non-violence and to bring back peace to the region.
For three days, literary figures, students, and students from various institutions in the city of Ouahigouya came together in various fields through art pieces to promote better living together.
According to the President of the FELIART 2024 organizing committee Souleymane Ouermi, “given the commitment of everyone during the preparations, we are hopeful for a total success. We have pulled out all the stops to ensure that things go well. Several activities such as literature olympic games, culinary arts competitions, direct exchanges with writers were planned.”
Activities of this edition included exhibitions and sales of literary works, exchange meetings on African literature, book dedications, and discussions with experts were on the agenda.
Valentin Kambiré, representing the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism, stated, “our department promotes culture. We applaud the initiative and thank all the actors for all the efforts made to hold this edition despite the very difficult security situation. We congratulate the entire population, especially the resilient youth, and assure them of the ministry’s unwavering support for this initiative.”
While praising the strong mobilization that demonstrates the interest in this activity, Mr. Kambiré invited the population, especially the youth of the North region, to always stand united around the transitional authorities and combatants to facilitate the ongoing reconquest operations in the region and throughout the country.
