Burkina: The use of ICT must protect human dignity and privacy, CIL

Ouagadougou, March 27, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Commission on Information and Liberties (CIL) reminded internet users on Wednesday to respect human dignity and privacy in the use of information and communication technologies (ICT).

“To internet users, the CIL will continue to remind them that the use of information and communication technologies must serve each citizen and must not violate human dignity or privacy,” said Dr. Halguièta Nassa/Trawina, President of the Commission on Information and Liberties (CIL).

It is in this sense that the CIL organizes awareness activities on the sidelines of the national day for the protection of personal data, celebrated every March 30, she explained.

Dr. Nassa was speaking in Ouagadougou during a sensitization seminar for decentralized administrative authorities in the public sector.

Among the participants in this seminar were the presence of regional governors, high commissioners, and prefects.

According to Dr. Halguièta Nassa/Trawina, it is important to equip them so that they can be the CIL’s representatives in their regions. The governor of the Central region, Abdoulaye Bassinga, stated that new risks related to the protection of privacy have emerged due to the constant growth of numerous digital platforms aimed at the dematerialization of administrative procedures.

“Therefore, it is even more essential that you, administrative authorities, understand and assess the real and constantly evolving challenges related to the fight against cybercrime, the protection of personal data, and privacy,” added Mr. Bassinga to his colleagues.
