The newly appointed Director of Monitoring and Promotion of Municipal Police (DSPPM), Municipal Police Inspector Jean Marie Ouédraogo, stated Thursday that the municipal police must play its role as a bulwark for ensuring the security of populations as well as internally displaced persons.
“It is our responsibility, along with the directors and commanders of municipal police, to play our role as a bulwark to guarantee the security of our populations as well as internally displaced populations in our respective cities,” said the new DSPPM Director.
Officially installed on Thursday in Ouagadougou in his DSPPM capacity by the Director-General of Territorial Collectivities, Issoufou Kongo, Mr. Ouédraogo highlighted the generalized insecurity as a challenge for municipal police officers to play their role in securing populations in different municipalities.
He expressed gratitude to the authorities who placed their confidence in him to lead the Direction of Monitoring and Promotion of Municipal Police.
Mr. Ouédraogo also paid tribute to his predecessor, Municipal Police Inspector Kiénou Waman, who led the direction for seven years. He emphasized the need for synergy with different security forces to combat terrorism in Burkina Faso.
“The municipal police cannot and should not be excluded from this fight, and we will strive for full participation and total integration of municipal police as a link in the chain of the fight against terrorism in Burkina,” he added.
Appointed in the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, February 27, 2024, as DSPPM, Municipal Police Inspector Jean Marie Ouédraogo replaces Inspector Waman Kiénou, who held the position since October 2017.
