Burkina: The Ministry of Culture organizes a training to “give the keys of interpretation” of cultural events to journalists

Ouagadougou, March 28, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism is organizing a training session from Thursday, March 28 to Saturday, March 30, 2024 in Ouagadougou to provide, according to the minister’s representative, “the keys of interpretation” of cultural events to journalists.

The Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism is organizing a training session from Thursday, March 28 to Saturday, March 30, 2024 in Ouagadougou, aimed at cultural journalists under the theme “building the capacity of media actors in understanding literary and artistic works.”

During the opening ceremony on Thursday morning, Mamadou Dembélé, the representative of the Minister of Culture, stated that “this training aims to provide our journalists with the keys to interpretation so that they can produce more articles in the fields of culture, arts, and tourism to promote them and facilitate their understanding by the population.”

“I hope that this training will trigger a new dynamic among media actors interested in cultural events and cultural journalism on radio and television,” he said.

The ministry is organizing this training with the expertise of the Group of Expertise and Endogenous Standardization of Symbols, Initiatives, and Knowledge (GENESIS) and the association YEELBA.

The executive secretary of GENESIS, Dramane Konaté, noted that Burkina Faso is a country rich in culture with many events and intellectual productions. Therefore, it is essential for media professionals to be well-equipped to report on these topics adequately.

Two presentations marked the first day of the training. The first, given by Georges Dua, focused on the history, discourse, symbolism of colors, and technical vocabulary of fashion. The second presentation, by the former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communication, Adama Barro, addressed the “Techniques of collecting, processing, and presenting information on fashion.”

This training is the implementation of a recommendation from a symposium organized in 2023 by the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism on the theme “Media, Tourism, and Culture,” in which the press as a whole participated.

The three-day training taking place in Ouagadougou will be followed by another session in Bobo-Dioulasso in April.
