Burkina Faso: Marien N’Gouabi High School Students Commit to Citizenship and Ecology
Ouagadougou, March 14, 2024. (Africa Links 24) – Students from Marien N’Gouabi High School in Ouagadougou have committed to promoting the values of citizenship and ecology through the launch of a club within the school.
“Citizenship is the dedication and attachment of the citizen to the city. Therefore, the responsibility of the student in this march for citizenship remains a concern for the authorities of my country, hence our commitment to promoting citizenship and ecology at Marien N’Gouabi High School through the establishment of this club,” said the President of the club, Ousmane Zongo.
To achieve its goals, the club has established a program of activities including raising the flag at the beginning of each week, organizing clean-up and sanitation days at the school, and raising awareness among students about the consequences of strikes.
The Minister for Human Rights, Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, praised the creation of this club, which will allow young people to communicate with each other.
“We believe that promoting civic values and patriotism can be a favorable asset in the fight against terrorism,” said Mr. Bayala.
He expressed the wish that “this club serves as a foundation to conquer other institutions”.
The school principal, Lazare Sebogo, praised the message conveyed by the club’s slogan, which is “I do not throw away a bag, I do not step over a bag, I pick it up.”
He urged the members of the club to embody the ideals of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, which include the development of patriotism that inevitably leads to citizenship.
