Burkina: Soon a New Institution to “Promote Burkina’s Interests on the International Stage”
Ouagadougou, April 18, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The authorities of Burkina Faso are preparing to establish a high authority for coordinating diplomatic action (HACAD) to enhance their capabilities in promoting and defending the interests of Burkina Faso globally, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs communication services.
A workshop organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabe Abroad, which concludes on Thursday in Ouagadougou, discussed the draft decree establishing the High Authority for Coordination of Diplomatic Action (HACAD), as explained by the Ministry’s communication department.
“It is imperative to have a high-level framework around the Head of State, responsible for coordinating and ensuring the coherence of our country’s diplomatic actions,” emphasized Dieudonné Désiré Sougouri, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabe Abroad.
For him, the creation of this body aims to “strengthen our ability to navigate in a constantly changing world and promote Burkina Faso’s interests on the international stage.” In addition to the officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the workshop for validating the HACAD texts saw the participation of the Presidency of Burkina Faso, the Prime Minister’s Office, and representatives from other ministries and institutions.
Burkina Faso has embarked on a “realistic and assertive diplomacy” that involves prioritizing partnerships, demanding mutual respect, and sincerity in relationships.
