Burkina: President Traoré to Provide the Government with Electric Cars to Save Money
Tenkodogo, March 8, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – President Ibrahim Traoré announced the establishment of an electric car production plant by the end of 2024, replacing all government vehicles to save on fuel costs.
“We will establish an electric vehicle production plant. Ideally, this plant should be ready before the end of 2024. The government’s fuel consumption is enormous. Therefore, we will replace all government vehicles with electric cars to save on fuel,” Ibrahim Traoré announced.
The president made these remarks on Friday to the Central-Eastern Forces, on the occasion of March 8.
Another announcement made by the Burkinabe head of state is the revival of ONBAH (National Office of Dams and Hydro-agricultural Development), which he said disappeared due to structural adjustment programs (SAPs), and the reactivation of SONATER (National Society for Land Development and Rural Equipment) to have agricultural equipment and engineers.
“Many people will not be happy because it is their market. They will say that the government wants to do the work of construction companies. But if we have to wait for everyone’s approval to build a number of dams, it will not work. We have no choice, we need to move quickly and effectively,” Ibrahim Traoré emphasized.
