Burkina Faso: Over 9,000 vulnerable children sponsored by the Ministry of Family in 2023

Ouagadougou, April 16, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Ministry of Family has been able to sponsor 9,229 orphans for an amount exceeding 579 million CFA francs in the year 2023, the Africa Links 24 learned on Tuesday.

“In 2023, the Ministry of Solidarity provided support totaling 519,826,000 CFA francs to 8,857 orphans and other vulnerable children, including 3,670 boys and 5,187 girls,” says a statement from the Directorate General of Family and Child (DGFE).

According to the DGFE, this sponsorship, which involved paying school fees, also concerned children with disabilities and those affected by acts of terrorism in the 13 regions of Burkina Faso.

Moreover, the Ministry of Solidarity also paid for the professional training fees for 372 orphaned children and other vulnerable children, including 145 boys and 227 girls. The total amount of this support is 60,173,000 CFA francs.

According to the same statement, the funding for these sponsorships was provided by the state budget, through the National Fund for Solidarity and Social Resilience (FNS-RS) and the National Council for Social Promotion (CNPS).

The DGFE also ensured that monitoring and supervision teams were deployed in the field to assess the living and studying conditions of these beneficiaries.

It is worth noting that 3,236 orphans and other vulnerable children were supported in 2022, representing an increase of 5,993 children.
