Burkina Faso: Japan offers equipment worth 93 million CFA francs for the registration of IDPs
Ouagadougou, April 3, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Republic of Japan donated equipment worth 93 million CFA francs to the Ministry responsible for Humanitarian Action on Tuesday for the biometric registration of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The donation, valued at approximately 93 million CFA francs, consists mainly of 200,000 registration cards, 120 fingerprint sensors, and 120 power bank batteries, as indicated by the communication services of the Ministry.
This donation falls within the framework of support for biometric registration and profiling of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Burkina Faso.
According to the Ambassador of the Republic of Japan, Nagashima Jun, this support is a cross-cutting project through which his country aims to help Burkina Faso accelerate its development by harnessing the potential of digital technology.
The Minister responsible for Humanitarian Action, Nandy Somé/Diallo, expressed her gratitude to the diplomat for his support, which has contributed to achievements in the registration of IDPs.
The Minister stated that significant challenges remain to be overcome in order for biometric registration of IDPs to be extended to all regions of the country.
