Burkina Faso: Government announces “drastic” reductions in certain medical exams and procedures
Ouagadougou, March 13, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Burkinabe government announced on Wednesday a drastic reduction, starting at the end of April, in certain medical exams and procedures.
According to the Minister of Health, Dr. Lucien Robert Kargougou, who spoke at the end of the council of ministers, by the end of April, no patient will have to pay 500,000 CFA francs to be included in the queue for dialysis patients.
Also, patients who need three dialysis sessions per week will no longer have to pay for these sessions.
Patients who require hemodialysis will now pay 2,500 CFA francs per session, down from 15,000 CFA francs previously.
By the end of April, the cost of an MRI exam will decrease from 100,000 to 40,000 CFA francs.
The average cost of a scanner, which is currently 50,000 CFA francs, will be reduced to 25,000 CFA francs.
