Burkina: Former President Zida Mourns His Father
Ouagadougou, March 7, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – Former Burkinabe President and Prime Minister Yacouba Issac Zida lost his father, El Hadj Nongma Salam Zida, yesterday, as reported by Africa Links 24.
“Rest in peace dear father. You have given us values and shown us the way. We are eternally grateful to you,” wrote Yacouba Issac Zida on his Facebook page Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, Mr. Zida changed his cover photo to a black page, marking the period of mourning.
According to the news website actualite.bf, El Hadj Nongma Salam Zida passed away on March 6 in Ouagadougou and will be buried on Thursday in Gomponsom in the Passoré province (North).
As a reminder, General Yacouba Issac, then a lieutenant colonel, took power in November 2014 after the popular uprising that ended President Blaise Compaoré’s 27 years of rule.
He handed over power a few weeks later to President-designate Michel Kafando, who immediately appointed him Prime Minister of the Transition.
After the election of President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré in November 2015, Yacouba Issac Zida went into exile in Canada due to legal troubles, among other reasons.
