Burkina Faso withdraws a contract of 183 million CFA from a company that demands full payment in advance
Ouagadougou, March 27, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The government has just reassigned a contract for an optical sorter worth 183 million CFA to another company after canceling the order it had placed with the company Anhui Wentao Intelligent Photoelectronic Technology, which, according to the government, “demands payment in full in advance before any start of execution”.
The Council of Ministers, meeting this Wednesday under the chairmanship of Captain Ibrahim Traore, recalled that “as part of the implementation of this initiative, the acquisition of optical sorters is planned to achieve the objectives of the component ‘Emergency initiative for the intensification of rice cultivation in Burkina Faso on 4000 hectares'”.
To this end, a total market of one hundred eighty-three million sixty-eight thousand nine hundred seven (183,068,907) CFA francs TTC was awarded to the company ANHUI Wentao Intelligent Photoelectronic Technology Co. Ltd., which demanded full payment in advance before any start of execution”.
“However,” continues the government, “this procedure for unlocking resources as desired by the awardee does not comply with public procurement regulations and public service delegations”.
The Burkinabe government has therefore decided to withdraw the contract and reassign it to the company Nema Agricole du Faso (NAFASO) for an amount of one hundred eighty-three million sixty-eight thousand three hundred eighty (183,068,380) CFA francs TTC, with a deadline of ninety (90) days for execution.
