Burkina: Widows and Retirees Raise 100,000 CFA Francs for Peace Efforts

Ouagadougou, March 14, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Minister of State, Minister of Public Service, Labor, and Social Protection, Bassolma Bazié, received a delegation from the Amicale des femmes retraitées et veuves pensionnées du Burkina Faso (AFRVP-BF) on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at his office in Ouagadougou.

The delegation, led by the coordinator of the Amicale, Madeleine K. Bonzi, presented the structure and handed over an envelope of 100,000 CFA Francs as a contribution to the war effort to the Minister of State, as reported by the ministry’s communication department.

According to Madame Bonzi, AFRVP, which was created on March 8, 2021, aims to contribute to the national development efforts of Burkina Faso.

She explained that the organization is involved in socio-economic, cultural, and even sports activities.

“Our actions target specific groups in need. We are planning to support single mothers (students and workers) who have difficulties in caring for their children so they can pursue their activities by creating a daycare center to take care of these children,” she revealed.

The Amicale also intends to contribute to the fight against moral degradation by raising awareness in schools for the children to become responsible citizens of tomorrow.

To achieve this, AFRVP expects support from the Minister of State for the implementation of these activities.

This support includes administrative and material assistance, particularly in terms of acquiring land, buildings, and a headquarters for the Amicale, according to the organization’s leader.

The Minister responsible for Public Service, on behalf of the President of the Transition, Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, thanked the guests for their support for peace efforts, which he sees as a display of patriotism.

Regarding support for the organization in carrying out its activities, he noted that the concerns raised are social and national in nature.
