Burkina: Two Middle School Girls Contribute 32,500 CFA Francs to the Patriotic Support Fund
Ouagadougou, April 12, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – Two middle school girls, twins Noéla and Toussiane Zabré, both 5th grade students at the MonSeigneur André Dupont school complex, donated the sum of 32,500 CFA Francs, from the sale of candies, to the patriotic support fund.
“We started selling candies in February because we were planning to buy a motorcycle, but with the advice of our parents we decided to donate the March revenue of 32,500 CFA Francs to respond to the call of President Captain Ibrahim Traoré,” the donors said according to the Sidwaya newspaper.
According to the same source, these students have also announced their commitment to now donate 30% of sales to the Patriotic Support Fund and their willingness to mobilize their classmates to visit war wounded.
“With the approval of our parents, we will request an audience with the president to ask for permission to go on a front-line immersion. For us, this war must end now and the country needs everyone, young and old. That is why we call on all students to mobilize,” they added.
The Sidwaya newspaper also reports that the call for mobilization of domestic resources for financing the fight against terrorism was also heeded by listeners and viewers of the Savane media group who contributed a total of 70 million 50 thousand CFA Francs.
The person in charge of collecting donations for the Patriotic Support Fund of the Savane media group, Yacouba Jacob Barry, emphasized that “the amount donated is the result of contributions from Burkinabè within the country and from the diaspora.”
The state newspaper also informs that traders from the rural commune of Rambo, in the Yatenga province of the Northern region, traveled to Ouagadougou to present a check for 1 million CFA Francs.
According to their representative, Lassané Sana, this contribution is a sign of their gratitude for the efforts made by the government to bring back peace and their willingness to support the process of reclaiming the territory.
