Burkina: The OPUIS AWARDS will distinguish model citizens on April 27th

Ouagadougou, March 5, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Pan-African Observatory for Unity, Integrity, and Sovereignty (OPUIS Awards) will distinguish model citizens recognized for their commitments in various areas of Burkinabe national life on April 27, 2024 in Ouagadougou, according to information obtained by Africa Links 24 from the organizers.

The first edition of the OPUIS Awards, organized by the Pan-African Observatory for Unity, Integrity, and Sovereignty, will take place on April 27, 2024, in Ouagadougou. According to Maxime Ouédraogo, representative of the president of the OPUIS Awards organizing committee, this exceptional initiative aims to celebrate and honor emerging and community leaders who embody the fundamental values of Burkina Faso.

“The OPUIS Awards have been created to recognize and applaud these dedicated actors who work day after day for the well-being of our nation in areas as diverse as public policies, culture, education, human rights, and justice,” he continued. He also emphasized that the principles of unity, integrity, and sovereignty, which are the foundational republican values of Burkina, guide the vision and inspire the actions of the OPUIS.

The partners of the OPUIS Awards, Sigma Corporation’s vice president, Donis Ayévi, and Valium’s administrator, Aboul Rachid Dera, were also present at the press conference. Mr. Ayévi announced that five categories of prizes will be awarded at the OPUIS Awards: the OPUIS Joseph Ki-Zerbo Prize for education and culture, the Marie-Jacqueline Ki-Zerbo Prize for women’s progress and promotion, the OPUIS Yacouba Sawadogo Prize for environmental protection.

There is also the OPUIS Norbert Zongo Prize for integrity, peace, social justice, and press freedom, and finally the OPUIS Guimbi Ouattara Prize for artistic and cultural excellence for the promotion of Burkina Faso. The main objectives of the OPUIS Awards are to raise awareness of these foundational republican values of the country, defend national interests, and promote togetherness.

This initiative also aims to inform, raise awareness, and educate participants, guests, and the national opinion on civic values, the preservation of the country’s sovereignty and its resources.

The vice president of Sigma Corporation adds that to be eligible, candidates must, among other things, be at least 25 years old, have made a significant contribution to the country’s development, and be recognized by their peers or their corporation. Nominations will be submitted either by peer recommendation or by identification by the compliance and evaluation committee.

In the second case, identified individuals will submit their own candidacy by providing detailed information about their achievements and contributions through a dedicated online platform. After the publication of the nominees, voting will take place anonymously, preserving the voters’ anonymity. The award ceremony for the winners is scheduled for April 27, 2024.

The OPUIS Awards is a pan-African initiative taking its first steps in Ouagadougou. “According to the committee’s vision, it will take place every two years but in different countries in Africa where the prizes will be localized,” Mr. Ayévi specified.
