Burkina: Customary and traditional practices will be celebrated every May 15
Ouagadougou, March 6, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The government has instituted the celebration of customary and traditional practices every May 15, a day declared a public holiday to reaffirm the secularism of the State and to allow traditional religion to reclaim its place in society.
“From now on, every May 15 will be dedicated to the commemoration of our customs and traditions,” the minutes of this Wednesday’s Council of Ministers meeting stated. According to the Minister in charge of religious affairs, Emile Zerbo, the decree aims to reaffirm the secularism of the State and to allow traditional religion to reclaim its place in society.
“May 15 is now declared a public holiday,” added Mr. Zerbo
