Burkina Faso is considering strengthening its cooperation with Azerbaijan. Ouagadougou, March 2 (Africa Links 24) – Diplomatic authorities in Burkina Faso see the possibility of strengthening cooperation with Azerbaijan, an oil-rich country that is neighbor to Russia and Iran, according to official sources.

While attending a diplomatic forum organized by Turkey in Antalya, the Burkinabe Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, “discussed several areas of interest with his Azerbaijani counterpart towards enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two States,” according to his communication team.

“In particular, the two ministers agreed to expedite their rapprochement by signing a Framework Agreement for cooperation as soon as possible,” the source stated.

“This framework will serve as a platform to increase the volume of cooperation between the two countries in various areas such as hydrocarbons, gas, defense, higher education, etc.,” specified the communication services of the Burkinabe Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Traoré also congratulated his Azerbaijani counterpart, Djeyhoun Bayramov, on his reappointment in the latest government formed after the presidential election on February 7, 2024.

Azerbaijan, with its capital in Baku, is a country rich in oil and natural gas, spanning an area of 86,600 km². It borders Russia, Iran, and Armenia, with which it is in conflict.
