Burkina : 2024, a year of hope for the total reconquest of the territory, (minister)
Ouagadougou, Feb. 29, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Minister in charge of Security, Emile Zerbo, indicated on Thursday that 2024 is shaping up to be a year of hope for the total reconquest of Burkinabe territory, by defeating the terrorists.
“Winning the bet of peace and security is more than ever a priority for the government and 2024 is inevitably shaping up to be the year of hope, hope for the total reconquest of the national territory,” said the Minister in charge of territorial administration, decentralization, and security, Emile Zerbo.
The Minister in charge of territorial administration, decentralization, and security, Emile Zerbo, spoke on Thursday in Ouagadougou at the 2024 annual review of the Sectoral Framework for Dialogue “Defense – Security (CSD-DS).”
According to Mr. Zerbo, efforts will continue to allow the Defense and Security Forces, as well as the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), to benefit from the necessary conditions to better address security challenges.
For the Minister, the current review is taking place at a time when significant offensives on the ground by “our Defense and Security Forces and by the VDP,” as part of the fight against terrorism, have already led to the liberation of certain localities in the country, facilitating the resettlement of internally displaced persons and the reopening of some public services.
According to him, the work of the current review will consist of examining the annual balance sheet, identifying the main achievements, the difficulties encountered, and gathering directions to improve performance in 2024.
He noted that significant progress has been made through, in particular, strengthening the operational capacities of the defense and security forces, acquiring operational and strategic equipment, increasing personnel numbers, continuous training of security personnel, responding to the humanitarian crisis, and promoting social cohesion and living together initiatives.
