Burkina Faso and the United Nations System sign a partnership agreement for the development of the Communication and Culture sectors
Ouagadougou, March 14, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Minister of State, Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, presided over the signing ceremony of a partnership agreement between his department and the United Nations System in Burkina Faso on Thursday, March 14, 2024, in Ouagadougou.
This partnership, with a total amount of 283 million CFA francs, whose actions will unfold until FESPACO 2025, will contribute, among other things, to the implementation of the Government’s communication strategy in times of crisis. It will also help develop the value chain of women’s community entrepreneurship and strengthen the infrastructural and technical capacities of the National Culture Week (SNC).
The partnership will also be used to co-produce and award prizes during ministry events and enhance the capacity of the media structures of the MCCAT. According to Minister of State Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, this partnership agreement is a strong symbol and an act full of hope as it reflects a common desire to promote cultural expressions in the service of peace, intercultural dialogue, social cohesion, and materializes the firm commitment of both partners to defend cultural rights, human rights, and access to information.
“Burkina Faso remains committed to the values, principles, and objectives supported by international cultural conventions, particularly those related to heritage and the diversity of cultural expressions,” he emphasized. He then reaffirmed his availability to collaborate with the United Nations Agencies to achieve the sustainable development goals of the Agenda 2030, respecting the sovereignty of Burkina Faso.
According to the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator ad interim, Alain Akpadji, all the specialized agencies of the institution, including UNICEF, FAO, UNFPA, WHO, IFAD, UNDP, WFP, and UNHCR, have mobilized around the MCCAT through the signing of this partnership agreement. He thanked the Minister of State for initiating this partnership, which will establish a permanent framework for dialogue for the benefit of the populations.
