Burkina Faso: “Embezzlement of Public Funds Has Decreased Significantly,” ASCE-LC

Ouagadougou, March 12, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The High Authority for State Control and the Fight against Corruption (ASCE-LC) assured on Monday that embezzlement of public funds has significantly decreased in Burkina Faso.

“The attitude towards the management of public funds is no longer the same. Embezzlement of funds has decreased significantly,” said Urbain Millogo, the interim head of the ASCE-LC.

Mr. Millogo, whose statements were reported by the Prime Ministry’s communication office, added that this change is due to the fear of the “police officer.”

The Acting State Controller, Urbain Milogo, presented the 2022 activity report of his institution to Prime Minister Me Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambèla.

The ASCE-LC’s announcement of the significant decrease in embezzlement of public funds in Burkina Faso is a positive development in the country’s fight against corruption. Urbain Millogo’s statement that the behavior towards the management of public funds has changed indicates a shift towards more accountability and transparency in financial matters.

The acknowledgment of the role of fear as a deterrent to embezzlement highlights the importance of enforcing consequences for such actions. By instilling a sense of accountability and oversight, the ASCE-LC is contributing to a more responsible handling of public funds.

The presentation of the institution’s activity report to the Prime Minister demonstrates a commitment to accountability and transparency in the oversight of public funds. This communication and collaboration between government bodies are essential for ensuring that public resources are managed effectively and ethically.

Overall, the ASCE-LC’s efforts to combat embezzlement and corruption in Burkina Faso are commendable. By addressing these issues head-on and implementing measures to prevent them, the country is taking a significant step towards good governance and accountability.
