Burkina: Dr. Dramane Konaté Celebrates 30 Years of Service to Literature, Arts, and Knowledge
On March 11, 2024, the Burkinabe writer, Dr. Dramane Konaté, celebrated his 30 years of service to Burkina’s Literature, Arts, and Knowledge in Ouagadougou. “Celebrating 30 years allows the writer to recharge, to reflect on his journey and see if he has truly been useful to the community and the youth,” said Dr. Dramane Konaté on Thursday, March 7, 2024, during a ceremony commemorating his three decades of service to Burkina’s Literature, Arts, and Knowledge.
He emphasized that his 30 years are also an opportunity to evaluate his contribution as a writer “to raising awareness, to the excellence of writing, whether at the national, continental, or international level.” He noted that excerpts from his works have been included in school and university exams on several occasions.
Several figures from the literary world, as well as political and traditional personalities, attended the ceremony, which highlighted that the man has about fifteen published works and that thirteen other unpublished works, spanning various genres, are awaiting publication.
Retired Professor Yves Dakyuo praised the holding of the event as a first in Burkina Faso. “It is not common in our environment for a writer to celebrate their professional anniversary. What we are experiencing tonight is the establishment of a new literary style that will give our writers more opportunities to emerge from the shadows,” he rejoiced.
The ceremony featured book signings of some of Dr. Dramane Konaté’s works and a number of testimonials. It is worth recalling that in 1993, Dr. Konaté presented his first screenplay at FESPACO, which was internationally recognized as the best despite barely having left university.
