Burkina Faso: Foundation Seeks to Build a Solar Power Plant through PPP
Ouagadougou, April 15, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The president of the International Foundation for Education, Health, and Hydraulics in Burkina Faso (F.IN.E.SA.H.B), Dr. Issa Ouédraogo, stated on Monday in Ouagadougou that his organization aims to support the authorities in achieving energy autonomy through the construction of a photovoltaic solar power plant under a public-private partnership (PPP).
The construction of the photovoltaic solar power plant is a project initiated by the International Foundation for Education, Health, and Hydraulics in Burkina Faso (F.IN.E.SA.H.B) in partnership with a financial group called “Global Eden,” based in Texas, USA, said Dr. Issa Ouédraogo, the president of the foundation.
Dr. Ouédraogo recently discussed the project with the Burkinabe Prime Minister, Me Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambèla.
According to him, the project will be executed under the public-private partnership format, meaning that “the Global Eden group will finance the construction of the solar plant in collaboration with the foundation and the Burkinabe state.”
Dr. Issa Ouédraogo specified that the plant will be built on 850 hectares of land and will help “address our energy challenges.”
Hervé Kiteba Simo, the representative of the financial group Global Eden, mentioned that the project has been validated and accepted by technical and financial partners “who truly wish to move forward and support it.”
“The unique aspect is that Global Eden is coming in to work for Burkina Faso’s benefit by establishing a local company that will manage this project in partnership with the foundation to provide solutions that will greatly contribute to energy self-sufficiency,” he added.
He stated that the construction of this photovoltaic solar power plant will cost approximately 855 billion CFA francs.
