Burkina Faso: Digital Platform for Collecting Data on Plots and Housing Launched

Ouagadougou, March 12, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Ministry responsible for Land Affairs launched a digital platform on Tuesday for collecting data on plots and housing acquired from real estate developers from 2008 to the present, in order to enable the State to make decisions on land management in Burkina Faso.

According to the Secretary General (SG) of the Ministry of Urban Development, Land Affairs, and Housing, Maxime Tiendrébeogo, the department aims to inform purchasers of plots from 2008 to 2024 through real estate developers via a digital platform.

Tiendrébeogo stated that the information collection with plot buyers on the platform began on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, and will continue until March 22nd at midnight.

He was speaking in Ouagadougou on Tuesday in front of journalists at the official launch of the digital platform for collecting data on plots and housing acquired from former private developers.

The SG responsible for Land Affairs also recalled that on June 20, 2023, the government adopted the law promoting real estate in Burkina Faso.

Maxime Tiendrébeogo also mentioned the establishment on August 18, 2018, of an inter-ministerial committee to assess the land liability by his department on the activities of private real estate promotion.

“This committee includes actors in the urban land management chain, such as the Ministry of Urban Development, the Economy, and the Ministry of Territorial Administration,” he emphasized.

According to him, after setting up the committee, administrative data collection was conducted from various relevant structures, and information was requested both from previously accredited private real estate developers and housing cooperatives following specific guidelines.

Maxime Tiendrébeogo stated that these guidelines were aimed at collecting information related to the status of plots and housing constructed in terms of real infrastructure.

He said the digital data platform was launched for plot and housing buyers from real estate developers to enable the State to address land liabilities.

Tiendrébeogo noted that this platform is relevant to anyone who has acquired land or housing from a private real estate developer.

He mentioned that information on the platform includes, among other things, any purchase with the previously accredited real estate developer, housing cooperative, landowner, previous buyer, or as compensation or a gift.

“The Ministry of Urban Development, Land Affairs, and Housing counts on the commitment and contribution of all to accurately fill out the digital platform within the required timeframe,” he urged.
