Burkina: 18.4 million in loans granted to over 100 thousand women, including IDPs, through the FARF fund

Ouagadougou, April 6, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Burkinabe government granted 18.41 million CFA francs in loans to over 100 thousand women, including internally displaced women, through the Support Fund for Income-Generating Activities for Women (FARF) in 2023, according to official sources.

“In terms of results, in 2023, 41 provinces were covered with a total of 100,457 women benefiting from loans totaling 18,415,580,120 CFA francs,” explained the Ministry of Solidarity services, taking stock of FARF’s actions. “IDP women, the main beneficiaries of the funds.

Given the country’s security situation and the resulting internal displacement, thousands of women have been settled in temporary reception sites,” the same source indicated. Various training programs in multiple trades have also been initiated to empower internally displaced women, as part of the socio-economic integration efforts undertaken by the authorities, in addition to the loans and microcredits granted.

In October 2023, the Minister of Solidarity, Humanitarian Action, National Reconciliation, Gender, and Family, Mrs. Nandy Somé/Diallo, launched the Economic and Social Resilience Project for Women (PRES-PDI) benefiting over 8,000 IDP women in the Centre-North, East, Boucle du Mouhoun, and Sahel regions.

“In 2024, FARF intends to intensify its efforts to be even closer to its client base with the implementation of its new management tool,” as stated by the Ministry of Solidarity.

Established in September 1990, FARF is a financing fund without guarantees under the responsibility of the Ministry of Women. It operates nationwide.
