Burkina Faso: 18.4 billion in credits granted to over 100 thousand women, including IDPs, through the FARF fund

The Burkinabe government provided 18.41 billion CFA francs in credits to over 100 thousand women, including internally displaced women, through the Support Fund for Income-Generating Activities of Women (FARF) in 2023, according to official sources.

“In terms of results, during the year 2023, 41 provinces were covered with a total of 100,457 women benefiting from credits totaling 18,415,580,120 CFA francs,” explained the Ministry of Solidarity, reporting on the FARF’s activities. “IDP women, the major beneficiaries of the funds.”

Given the country’s security situation and the resulting internal displacement, thousands of women have been settled in temporary reception sites, the same source said. Training in various trades has also been initiated to empower internally displaced women in the context of their socio-economic integration efforts undertaken by the authorities, in addition to the credits and micro-credits provided.

In October 2023, Minister of Solidarity, Humanitarian Action, National Reconciliation, Gender, and the Family, Mrs. Nandy Somé/Diallo, launched the Economic and Social Resilience Project for IDP Women (PRES-PDI) benefiting over 8,000 IDP women in the Centre-North, East, Boucle du Mouhoun, and Sahel regions.

“For 2024, FARF aims to redouble its efforts to be even closer to its clients with the implementation of its new management tool,” the Ministry of Solidarity stated.

Established in September 1990, FARF is a non-guaranteed financing fund under the Ministry responsible for Women. It covers the entire national territory.
