The family of the late Nollywood actor, John Okafor, also known as Mr Ibu, has made an announcement regarding his burial date. Mr Ibu passed away after his leg was amputated following a battle with an undisclosed illness a few months ago. The beloved actor will be laid to rest in his hometown of Amuri, located in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
In a statement released by Ibu’s brother, Elder Sunday Okafor, it was revealed that the late actor will be given a hero’s burial. The Okafor family in Eziokwe Amuri expressed their desire to honor the memory of their son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and in-law on the 28th of June 2024. They extended an invitation to all to join them in celebrating the life and legacy of the iconic actor.
The burial ceremony is set to span five days, starting on Tuesday, June 25th with a high-profile novelty match in honor of Mr Ibu. The following day, Wednesday, June 26th, will see the hosting of Mr Ibu’s Night, a session that will include a candlelight procession and live entertainment. On June 27th, a Christian Wake will be held at his compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, leading up to the funeral service on June 28th.
The culmination of the 5-day ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 30th, with a Church Thanksgiving gathering for family members, friends, and well-wishers. This final event will provide an opportunity for all those who knew and loved Mr Ibu to come together and give thanks for his life and the joy he brought to so many.
Throughout his career, John Okafor entertained audiences with his humor and charisma. His contributions to Nollywood will always be remembered, and his family hopes to celebrate his life in a fitting manner.
