The highly-anticipated Madikwe Cultural Festival is set to return to Sikwane, Botswana in March, featuring an all-local lineup and a wide range of cultural activities. This year, the festival has been moved to 2nd March at Sikwane’s Newville Gardens, 35 kilometres southeast of Mochudi. The Founder and Director of Madikwe Cultural Festival, Tshegofatso Powane, explained that the decision to stage the festival in March instead of April was due to weather conditions, with the aim of allowing patrons to enjoy the festival without worrying about rain.

The festival is in its third installment and has seen a significant increase in its offerings and patronage over the years. With a growing turnout and the support of the local community, the cultural festival is a great way for the people of the ‘Dinokeng Villages’ and surroundings to celebrate culture and diversity. The lineup for this year’s festival boasts an all-local and mostly traditional music lineup, showcasing Botswana-based creatives in stage performances, lighting, sound, decor, food, photography, and other fundamental aspects of the festival.

The star-studded lineup includes artists such as KhoiSan, Maghebula, Dr Vom, DJ Batsy, Matlotla, DJ Sean Lacoostaq, Sua Pan, Dikgogela, DJ Stu, DJ Slu, and DJ Molex, with RB1’s legendary news anchor, Boemo Dibeela-Nyadza, as the MC. The festival aims to empower local communities and contribute to the value chain, offering traditional Setswana cuisine and entertainment such as traditional games to keep patrons engaged.

In addition to the performances and cultural activities, the festival has also released merchandise for patrons interested in supporting the Madikwe Cultural Festival brand. Ticket holders will receive a 20 percent discount upon checking in at the festival’s partner, Wipix Bed & Breakfast in Malolwane. Tickets for the festival are currently on sale at various locations including Webtickets Kiosk at Riverwalk, Choppies, Spar, the 24hr Clinic in Mmathubudukwane, and at Newville Gardens in Sikwane.

The festival has seen an increase in interest and support over the years, with a growing number of attendees and a commitment to promoting local talent and cultural diversity. With its unique lineup and focus on celebrating Botswana’s culture, the Madikwe Cultural Festival promises to be an exciting event for culture enthusiasts and music lovers alike.
