The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) has been called upon to assist in investigations involving suspended senior officers of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security Service (DISS), Pulane Kgoadi and Paul Setlhabi. The pair, along with certain officers from the legal and investigation departments of the secret service, were suspended last week following preliminary investigations into several unspecified issues. Prior to their suspensions, they underwent at least two days of interrogation.

DISS spokesman Edward Robert has confirmed that some officers are assisting with investigations but would not elaborate. However, sources indicate that DISS is eager to see “proper” legal action taken against the officers. DISS has reportedly forwarded all the information it has on the two and their colleagues to the DCEC for further investigations and potential prosecution.

Initial reports suggest that charges of abuse of office and money laundering may be brought against them. There have been meetings between the two agencies to discuss the case, which is considered delicate due to the positions held by the two suspended officers. Setlhabi, known as “Slim,” is a top investigator, while Kgoadi heads the legal department.

Attempts to contact DCEC spokesperson Lentswe Motshoganetsi have been unsuccessful. Reports indicate that Kgoadi and Setlhabi were informed of impending transfers to other ministries before becoming targets of investigations. They were hesitant to relocate, and the matter was brought to the attention of the Permanent Secretary to the President (PSP).

Before their falling out with the head of DISS, Peter Magosi, Setlhabi and Kgoadi were regarded as some of the most influential officers of the secret service. The situation has created tension within the organization and has raised concerns about the integrity of its operations.

The investigation will focus on allegations of abuse of office and money laundering, which are serious offenses that could result in criminal charges if proven. DISS is committed to ensuring that those responsible for any wrongdoing are held accountable and face the consequences of their actions.

The outcome of the investigation will have far-reaching implications for the future of DISS and the individuals involved. It is crucial that the process is thorough, transparent, and fair to all parties. The collaboration between DISS and the DCEC demonstrates a commitment to upholding the rule of law and fighting corruption within government agencies.

As the case unfolds, more details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the suspensions and the allegations against the officers. It is essential for the public to have confidence in the integrity of the institutions responsible for maintaining law and order in the country. The outcome of this investigation will be a test of the effectiveness of these institutions in upholding justice and accountability.
