The Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) is embarking on a new era of transformation and growth with a series of strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing its performance and overall output. In a recent statement released by the Vice Chairman of BCA, Sumod Damodar, it was revealed that the Board has conducted a comprehensive review of the organization’s image and has implemented bold measures to optimize its operations both on and off the field.

The Board’s review focused on all aspects of BCA, including its departments and on-field activities, with the goal of identifying areas for improvement and development. One major highlight mentioned in the statement was the successful visit of the BCA women’s team, known as The Herons, to India. The team toured Bengaluru in November 2023 at the invitation of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the visit was deemed a success.

Following the positive outcomes of the women’s team visit, BCA is now hosting a technical team from KSCA to further enhance the coaching capacity and capabilities of the BCA development team. The visiting team includes Rajesh Kamath, Head Coach of KSCA, Mukunda Galappa, Senior Coach of KSCA, and Kiran Kudtarkar, Analyst at KSCA. The collaboration between the two associations aims to empower local coaches and support staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to improve the overall coaching standards in Botswana.

The intensive programme planned for the visit will include theoretical and practical components of the game, focusing on the T20 format for Men, Women, and U-19 Girls/Women, while the U-19 Boys/Men will participate in 50 Overs matches. This training regime is designed to align with the ICC pathway events in which BCA teams will be participating, emphasizing the importance of preparation and development at the youth level.

As part of the collaboration between BCA and KSCA, players and coaches are encouraged to approach this opportunity with seriousness and dedication, as it presents a unique chance to learn from experienced professionals in the field. The knowledge and skills imparted during this period of collaboration are expected to have a significant impact on the growth and development of cricket in Botswana.

Overall, the proactive steps taken by BCA demonstrate a commitment to improving its operational efficiency, performance standards, and coaching capabilities. By leveraging partnerships with international cricket associations like KSCA, BCA is poised to elevate the quality of cricket in Botswana and provide a platform for players and coaches to grow and excel in the sport.
