Several trade union confederations are planning a peaceful march to protest against the high cost of living.
On Saturday, April 27, 2024, several trade union confederations are planning to organize a peaceful march to protest against the rising cost of living. This announcement was officially communicated by the General Secretaries of the Csa-Benin Anselme Amoussou, of the Cgtb Bachabi Moudassirou, and of the Unstb Apollinaire Affewe.
Through this statement, the union leaders also denounce the destructive policy of the state which refuses to take responsibility for the hierarchy of salaries of private and semi-public sector workers.
The statement also highlights the planned route for the march. It will pass through the Labor Exchange, the Grand Carrefour Avenue Steinmeiz, the Saint-Michel intersection, the Marina intersection, and finally the Red Star intersection. This announcement comes at a time when the prices of essential goods have significantly increased in recent weeks.
A few days ago, the Minister of Industry and Commerce intervened to encourage people to report traders engaged in price gouging in the market. This statement has sparked strong disapproval within the public opinion.
Some argue that denunciations do not help reduce the price of products. Nevertheless, it should be noted that during the last Council of Ministers, the government expressed its opinion on this issue.
