The opposition parties will speak with one voice this Wednesday, March 13, 2024, against the electoral code adopted in the night of March 5 to 6 at the National Assembly.

The political parties opposed to the government of the “rupture” will face the media professionals this Wednesday, March 13, 2024. The objective of this media statement is to denounce the electoral code of deception aimed at imposing the hegemony of a political party on the political scene.

Indeed, more than a week after the adoption of Law 2024-13 of March 5, 2024, amending and supplementing Law No. 2019-43 of November 15, 2019 on the electoral code, the opposition forces to the regime of Cotonou, namely The Democrats (LD), New National Force (NFN), Grand Republican Solidarity (GSR), the Popular Movement for Liberation (MPL) and the Cauris Force for an Emergent Benin (FcBe) intend to protest against this law which they believe aims to exclude the opposition from the 2026 general elections.

It is also indicated that some civil society organizations will participate in this media initiative.

Last Saturday, Boni Yayi denounced a code that, according to him, “contains the seeds of a division between the sons and daughters of our common homeland”, before calling for its revision.

It should also be noted that this electoral code, which is the subject of much debate, is the subject of more than eight appeals before the Constitutional Court. The high court has scheduled the examination of these appeals for the plenary session it will hold tomorrow, Thursday, March 14, 2024.
