The day after being dismissed in a council of ministers, the Chief of Staff of the national Navy was summoned to the economic and financial brigade (BEF).

Captain Jean Léon Olatoundji, Chief of Staff of the Navy, was summoned on Friday, April 12, 2024 by the Economic and Financial Brigade.

Just as the Council of Ministers has just replaced him, the captain finds himself involved in a case of theft of fuel intended to supply patrol boats. The Economic and Financial Brigade seems to have significant evidence related to this case, involving not only officials of the Beninese Navy, but also receivers who have now been arrested.

The preliminary hearing of this case has already taken place on April 4, implicating 8 people, and has been postponed to June 13, 2024. According to Bip radio, citing sources close to the case, it is in connection with this same case that the former head of the Navy was summoned by the Economic Brigade. It should be noted, however, that a summons to the BEF does not presume the guilt of the person summoned.

It should be noted that Captain Jean Léon Olatoundji was appointed in April 2022, and was in office at the time of the events. For now, the outcome of this summons remains uncertain, but it raises many questions within the national Navy.
