Journalist Aboubacar Takou from the daily newspaper Béninois Libéré is facing legal issues in his country. Pursued by two magistrates in a case of harassment through electronic systems, the media professional made his first appearance on Tuesday, March 12, 2023.
According to information reported by Libre Express, the accused did not admit to the charges brought against him in court today. He pleaded not guilty.
The alleged facts leading to the prosecution are a decision made by the magistrates in a family succession case. The way the journalist covered this case in one of his articles did not sit well with the complainants who decided to take him to court.
Questioned in January as part of this case, he was prosecuted without being taken into custody and appeared before the CRIET for a first hearing on Tuesday, March 12. In this case, Aboubacar Takou, who did not have a lawyer for his defense, had already apologized to the offended magistrates through another article.
At the end of Tuesday’s hearing, the case was adjourned to April 16 for further proceedings. While awaiting the next hearing, Aboubacar Takou remains free to move around as he is being prosecuted without being taken into custody.
