A suspected food poisoning at the civil prison of Abomey-Calavi has sparked controversy on social media for the past few hours in Benin.
The repeated information circulating on social media prompted the prison officials to send doctors to the aid of the guards at this facility.
A source from Le Matinal confirmed the dispatch of a team of doctors. Their intervention will confirm or refute the information regarding the possible food poisoning. “It is currently impossible to determine whether it is indeed a case of food poisoning,” the source said.
“Only thorough investigations will confirm the information,” the source from the newspaper reminds. “It could also be a hygiene issue related to water,” she emphasizes. “Because most of the prisoners who consumed the implicated food showed no signs of concern.”
According to the alert shared on social media, on Monday, April 15, 2024, approximately 500 inmates were affected by a possible food poisoning.
