The director of the civil prison of Cotonou is no longer in office. He has been dismissed.
The director of the civil prison of Cotonou has been subject to disciplinary sanctions and is no longer in office, as confirmed by reliable sources close to the APB.
Loukmane Dourotimi Adeoti, as he is concerned, has been removed from the head of this detention center where he was appointed director on November 5, 2023.
The decision taken by the authorities of the Benin Prison Agency follows a visit on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 by a group of deputies from the opposition party, The Democrats, to the opponent Joël Aïvo.
The same group of deputies was refused a visit to former minister Reckya Madougou, an inmate at the civil prison of Missérété. The controversy sparked by this refusal forced the special prosecutor of the CRIET and the director of the APB to justify themselves.
In a press release dated March 29, 2024, the Director-General of the Benin Prison Agency, François Hounkpè, clearly stated that the authorities of the Cotonou detention center should not in any case allow this visit. By doing so, he specifies, they took liberties with the internal regulations and must therefore expect sanctions.
For his part, the special prosecutor of the CRIET indicated that since the covid19 pandemic, only individual visits are allowed in the detention centers of the country.
Referring to the group of deputies, prosecutor Mario Mètonou suggested that the director “should refer to me or the Director of the Benin Prison Agency. It is a serious mistake.”
And as expected, the disciplinary sanctions announced by the director of the Benin Prison Agency did not take long to be implemented.
