Stripped of over 4 million FCFA in the purchase of land, a man threatened to seize the deceased father of the seller to obtain a refund.
The case was examined during the correctional session of Thursday, April 11, 2024. A man resorted to an unusual threat to recover part of the money invested in the purchase of land, reported Banouto.
In this case, a young woman is the subject of a detention warrant for charges of land fraud. According to the accusation, she illegally collected money from several people in exchange for disputed or forged land parcels, which did not belong to her.
She apparently defrauded more than a dozen victims, as revealed during the proceedings before the CRIET. In her alleged scheme, the young woman managed to pocket tens of millions of FCFA from her victims for land in Torri, Akpro-Misérété, Tohouè, and Djèrègbé in the commune of Sèmè-Podji.
Menace on the corpse of the accused’s father
One of the victims managed to recover part of what the accused had taken from him. In court, the plaintiff said he had made threats to recover his money after realizing that the purchased land was contested.
“I went to see her and told her that if she didn’t give me my money, I would seize her father’s body at the morgue,” the plaintiff told the judges, according to remarks reported by Banouto.
He said that after receiving this threat, the defendant paid him part of the money, but there is still 1,300,000 FCFA to collect. According to him, this was the only pressure tactic he had found to make the young woman react. During this period, the plaintiff had lost her father, whose body was at the morgue.
After the victims testified, their lawyer mentioned other injured parties who could not attend the hearing at the CRIET. The judge expressed a desire to hear them in this case. Therefore, the Court adjourned the case to May 16, 2024.
