“Launched on March 1, 2024, the crackdown campaign on traffic violations related to non-compliance with the road code will enter its second phase at the end of April 2024,” announced the General Directorate of the Republican Police on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

Soon the phase II of the operation to crackdown on road code violations in Benin. Indeed, during a press conference held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the General Directorate of the Republican Police, after assessing the first phase of this extensive crackdown campaign, revealed the violations targeted in the second phase.

Thus, in the coming days, particular focus will be placed on cracking down on drivers and their passengers who fail to wear seat belts. In addition, checks will be carried out on the necessary documents for vehicle circulation, such as the validity of insurance, technical inspection, and payment of the motor vehicle tax (TVM). Furthermore, the use of phones while driving will be systematically punished.

Furthermore, the second phase of this campaign will also target overloading for both cars and motorcycle drivers. In this regard, concerning motorcycles, overloading will not be punished if the age of the third passenger is between zero and ten years old.

During this press conference, the General Directorate of the Republican Police reminded that fines, as well as towing fees, can be paid either online or at the public treasury offices.

Those who violate the road code are therefore urged to strictly adhere to these regulations, compliance with which must not have any lapses. Road users are also strongly encouraged to report any extortion attempts, as their silence in the face of extortion would make them accomplices and therefore liable to legal action.
